Who hasn’t been there? In the middle of making something and you go to the cupboard, and you are out of brown sugar!
Did you know that with two ingredients you can make your own brown sugar at home in a matter of minutes?
All you need is white sugar and molasses.
The difference between light and dark brown sugar is the amount of added molasses. Dark brown sugar as about twice the amount of molasses as light brown sugar.
For light brown sugar:
1 C. White sugar
1 TBSP. Molasses*
*You can add more or less molasses to your taste or desired color.
Simply mix the sugar and molasses together with a spoon, until it is well incorporated.
A word of caution, if you are tempted to use a whisk to mix rather than a spoon, DON’T! You will end up with a molasses ball in the center of the whisk and getting it out will result in sugar flying everywhere.
Happy Cooking!
